Top Podcasts for Nonprofit Leaders

“Are there any good podcasts for nonprofit leaders?”

That’s what one of my coaching clients recently asked. I replied with an enthusiastic yes!

There are some incredible podcasts that cover a whole range of nonprofit topics – from philanthropy to fundraising to leadership.

And I definitely have favorites that I personally listen to and recommend checking out.

The Nonprofit Podcasting Landscape

The nonprofit sector is surprisingly active in podcasting, though the terrain constantly changes.

Many podcasts of every genre don’t survive more than a year or two, and some disappear entirely from the internet and apps.

So, what does the nonprofit podcasting world offer? Everything from information and interviews to skill-building and recordings of live events.

Nonprofit podcasts tend to focus on fundraising, but many also include information and interviews on board development, strategic planning, digital and tech tools, marketing, and leadership.

Some focus on specific topics, including racial equity and inclusion, management, grant writing, and even philanthropy.

The Full List of Nonprofit Podcasts

I scoured the internet for one central list of nonprofit podcasts that are still active and couldn’t find anything great, so with the help of ChatGPT, Google, and my team, I compiled one!

Full list: All the nonprofit podcasts out there.

Our full list also notes podcasts that we believe haven’t published an episode since the spring of 2023. If we are in error, we apologize and we are accepting updates and crowd-sourced information to improve this list.

Send information to us at info@nonprofitfixer.com. We included those podcasts here because they may still have valuable information for the field out there waiting to be listened to. You nonprofit nerds know what I am talking about.

The Best Nonprofit Podcasts on Fundraising

Within the realm of nonprofit podcasts, many touch on a range of fundraising topics. But there are a few that are especially valuable for those out there raising money.

  • Grant Writing and Funding Podcast: Holly Rustick is a Jane of all trades. Not only has she served on boards, written books, been an executive director, written more successful grants than she can count, and worn all the hats, but she also has a hugely successful business helping people earn a living as grant writers. I have been on her show and love her content! Grant Writing and Funding

  • Purpose and Profit Club: Christina Edwards helps nonprofits with marketing, but this specifically is in service to fundraising as well. Check out her podcast Purpose and Profit Club

  • Nonprofit Nation: Nonprofit Nation specializes in digital strategy and how it relates to fundraising and other areas of nonprofits. Julia Campbell gets GREAT guests on her show!

  • The Influential Nonprofit: Run by fundraising coach Maryanne Dersch, the Influential Nonprofit podcast is all about how nonprofit leaders can become more confident, credible, and convincing with donors, board, and staff – all without feeling pushy.

Top Nonprofit Podcasts on Leadership

Many nonprofit podcasts focus on leadership, including board leadership and executive director management. However, there are a few podcasts that include information on nonprofit startups, creating a new charitable organization, coaching, strategy, founder’s syndrome, and burnout.

  • Nonprofit Lowdown: I love Rhea Wong’s podcast Nonprofit Lowdown. She covers a wide range of relevant topics. Yep, I have been on her show! Love her content week after week.

  • Nonprofit Vision: I also love Nonprofit Vision with Gregory Nielsen. Gregory handles a wide range of issues and he has some of the best guests on. I learn a lot from his show.

Our Favorite Nonprofit Podcast on Philanthropy

There are surprisingly few podcasts that focus on philanthropy and giving away money. There is a real need for more podcasts in this space, although there are many blogs that focus on philanthropy and criticism of it!

  • Do Your Good: My favorite podcast about philanthropy is Do Your Good by my friend and colleague Sybil Ackerman-Munson. I was her first guest actually! Sybil has been a funder for years and shows people how funders see the fundraising process and pulls back the curtain on philanthropy.

Recommended Nonprofit Podcasts on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Some of my favorite podcasts dive right into issues of inclusion and justice. As a gay man who cares deeply about building anti-racist, anti-sexist, and non-trans/homophobic institutions, these appeal to me because they examine voices, language, and perspectives that normally don’t make it to conference plenaries and keynotes!

  • Kia Croom has a great podcast that examines her own experiences, and those of other people of color in the fundraising space. Such insights and knowledge bombs! The Black Fundraiser’s Podcast.

Conclusion

Nonprofit podcasting is growing but still largely struggling to find a mainstream audience that is profitable. For now, the plethora of nonprofit podcasts is enriching the economic and cultural landscape with exceptional information, links, tools, perspectives, and information that would otherwise be siloed or sitting in a drawer.
